How to properly measure

Your dress size measurements are taken in order to determine which size will provide the closest fit based on the designer’s sizing charts. A Finer Moment always recommends to come into store.  In the case you are unable to come in and cannot be professionally measured, here is a quick “How-To”.

Proper Measurement Placement

Proper Measurement Placement

How to Measure:

To achieve accurate measurements, your measuring tape should NOT be too tight, nor should it have too much slack. Measuring tape should always be parallel to the floor.

Bust size: Measure around your chest, at the fullest part of the bust. Be sure to not measure under the bust.

Waist size: Stand straight and tall, bend at the waist to one side. The crease that forms is where your natural waist is located. Measure across at this point.

Hip size: Stand with your feet close together, measure around the fullest part of your hips and rear.

How to determine what size you should order:

We will compare your measurements to the designer’s size charts.* It is very important that you order the largest size that corresponds to your measurements.

For example, you measure:

Bust fits a size 10

Waist fits a size 12

Hips fit a size 8

A Finer Moment recommends that you order a size 12 and alter the dress to custom fit your body. Ordering your gown that corresponds with your largest measurements will ensure that your dress has the most flattering fit possible.

*Every designer is different, therefore, every size chart is different. Formal wear is typically sized differently that retail clothing, so it is not uncommon to find yourself ordering your gown in one or more sizes larger than your normal dress size.
